the drury inn in west des moines was slapped with a discrimination lawsuit today. it's tonights big story. stephanie: the lawsuit claims staff at the drury inn discriminated against 22 year old meagan taylor, a black, transgender woman from st. louis taylor checked in on july 13th- taylor said staff members then called police. claiming taylor and her friend were "women dressed as men" and were engaging in prostitution. as a result- taylor was arrested and taken to the polk county jail for possessing hormone pills without a prescription. her charges were later dropped and she was never charged with prostitution she spent 8 days in jail before bonding out-- that's the video you see here. tonight, we talked to taylor and the a-c-l-u about the lawsuit.. claire powell has the story. liberties union and aclu of iowa claim under iowa's civil rights laws- taylor should be protected from discrimination in public accomodations and that this experience scarred taylor from wanting to return to iowa. "businesses this is illegal, clear message to drury and other trans people and businesses they cant have this unacceptable behavior" taylor herself, talked to local 5 news over the phone about the what she called a "tragic situation" and what she hopes the complaint does for transgender communities everywhere. "get the chance to get to know us, give us a chance, we're regular people just like them, you know we're not different we're all humans" following taylors comments, aclu said it was simply unaccpetable and "un- iowan" "nobody should be treated like a criminal for being who they are, being transgender is not a crime but thats how drury made her feel" from des moines claire

stephanie: we were unable to get ahold of drury inn for comment. the civil rights commission will investigate the complaint, speaking with both parties before moving forward. jack: republican candidates for president square off at the 4th g-o-p presidential debate tonight in milwaukee. jack:: the latest polls show ben carson and donald trump in a dead heat -- far ahead of the rest of the pack. away in a lot of our locations." jack: more than 25- thousand visitors are expected annually. exhibits will include a full size wells fargo stagecoach, and historical news-media displays. stephanie: take a good look at this. des moines police want to know if you recognize two suspects in a burglary. police were called to the laundry place on university avenue last night. the suspects, a male and female, were recorded on video as they broke into the place. : stephanie: and over in fort dodge...police need help in figuring out who robbed a kum n go overnight. fort dodge police got a call a little before 2 am to the kum and go station. a gas statio employee said this person came into the store with a gun and demanded money. the suspect then ran out of the store with some cash...we don't yet know hoe much. police think it's likely someone saw the robber running away. stephanie/2shot coming up on local 5 news at five... jack: how would you

jack: a washington state grandmother got a shock yesterday when she walked into her living room and found intruders trying to rob her... and the whole thing was caught on camera. russ bowen reports. "they may not look like the most organized or experienced burglars...as they haphazardly move from room to room not seeming to know what to look for or how to grab it. then there was this crash... guelda messina thought her husband was still home. "so i got up and opened the door and there was a guy going through the buffet " she just said this.... nat "get the hell out of here" and off they went. guelda remained unharmed. but, it wasn't until hours later when she reviewed this video that she realized there were three people in her home...and that it could have gone sideways very quickly. she doesn't even want to think about it. "i just can't i've never lost anybody and i

first rang the doorbell over and over to see if someone was home then they broke the door window on the lower level ...one of them came inside. you can see him as he came up the stairs and then let the others into the front door. "i've been so happy so fortunate so complacent that this has just dumbfounded me" the grandmother says it happened so fast she just had an automatic reaction. "i just thought someone was here robbing me and you know get the hell out of here but i couldn't imagine anyone coming to harm me" as far as she can tell, they didn't get away with anything but her purse. "i consider it a very lucky day in my life probably one of the luckiest" stephanie: they usually respond to accidents...but

ambulance found itself today an ambulance found itself in the middle of a wreck. it happened at southwest 7th and m-l-k- we have some photos here of the ambulance being towed, but it looks like not that much damage was done. officers on scene say two people were in the ambulance and two people were in the car at the time of crash. stephanie/ostr 26-thousand dollars up in flames. the marshalltown fire department is looking into a house fire that left behind a lot of damage. it happened on 606 east linn street in marshalltown around 2 in the afternoon. crews immediately focused on the back porch of the home. crews rescued two pets inside. no injuries were reported. no cause yet to report. jack: 146 veterans from boone county recently took the trip of a lifetime on board freedom flight and locals 5's elias johnson was invited to tag along. his camera was rolling as local heroes visited memorials in washington d-c, dedicated to each branch of

out of their jobs today to demand a minimum wage hike. in more than 270 cities, fast food employees protested for a 15-dollar-an- hour minimum wage increase.

fast food workers have walked off the job dozens of times in the last few years to draw attention to the issue. they say they're working class people who deserve a better living wage to make ends meet. jack: still no answers on that e.coli outbreak related to chipotle in washington state. but the chain's pacific northwest restaurants could reopen later this week. all the tests of food from chipotle stores in washington and oregon came back negative as well. they'll be allowed to reopen after they've met some conditions. they must get rid of and replace all produce, do a their stores, health start a new protocol for produce. in the northwest states only have gotten e. coli in the outbreak associated with chipotle. stephanie/otsr mumps is on the rise at the university of iowa. so now students can get a vaccine for free. will be next locations across campus, and the school says it will offer more free
